Application for New Small Mall Artists

Calling all Pittsburgh-area artists! Small Mall is seeking artists to provide work for sale at our storefront in Upper Lawrenceville. The selected artists will have their work displayed for one consignment season (90 days), with the possibility of extending your contracted time.

Small Mall is a small store with a big mission to promote and grow the creative economy in Pittsburgh.  We aim to be a bridge between gallery and retail, and to offer residents an accessible way to enjoy all that artists living in the Pittsburgh area have to offer - the pretty, the weird, the functional, and the outlandish.

 

Sales are split 50/50 and checks are distributed monthly. If interested, please fill out the following application for consideration. Limit to one submission per person. Artists within  100 miles of Pittsburgh area only, applicants who live outside of this area will not be considered.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, we may make changes to consignment periods. We will notify artists if any changes arise from the pandemic.

To apply for our open call:

 

  • Fill out our application form through the button below. You will be taken to our Google Form application in a separate tab or window. If the application page doesn't open, please check your ad-blocker.
     

  • Submit up to five high-quality JPEGs of work you plan to sell at Small Mall and an image list.
     

    • When choosing your work, please do not include any work that you aren't planning to have for sale at our storefront. We'd like to get a good idea of what may be coming into the store during the selection process.
       

    • Please label your files with your last name, first name, and the title of your piece i.e. "hattori_eriko_title.jpg"
       

    • For your image list, please provide the following information: Title of piece, dimensions, medium, year created, price (you can omit the price if you need pricing assistance)
       

  • Please wait 2-3 weeks to hear back with our decision. If selected, we will also send a link for you to schedule your drop off and preliminary paperwork
     

  • Our drop-off dates for accepted applicants is [DROP OFF DATES HERE] only. We limit our drop-off window due in order to expedite the intake process as much as possible for new artists. If you aren't available on during these dates, we recommend that you wait to apply during our next open call. If our business hours conflict with your schedule regularly, please reach out and we'll be happy to work with you.

 

Tips on selecting your work:

  • Choose work that can retail at $500 or less

  • Submitted work should be no bigger than 48” in any direction. Smaller is better!

  • Work that can be sold in multiples preferred (i.e. prints, zines, jewelry)

  • Consider work that feels accessible - will people walking in off the street understand it/want to buy it?

  • We live up to our name--we are a very small shop. No room for storage, so we will only take small batches of work from each artist.
